Before starting the mold design process, the material selection is made, the production method is determined, and the 3D geometry and tolerance-based technical drawings of the part are created.
For Conceptual Mold Design, technical data related to the production machine, such as tonnage, stroke, and mounting plate specifications, are required. Additionally, factors like total production quantity, monthly production targets, cycle time, and investment budget help determine the number of cavities in the mold. If the mold is for plastic injection molding, key design considerations such as whether a moving core is needed, runner and ejector types, and cooling system principles are decided in this stage.
Once the fundamental mold principles are agreed upon with the customer and the order is confirmed, the detailed design phase begins. During this process, the mold is designed in 3D, and its operating principles and step-by-step movement sequences are analyzed. If potential defects are anticipated during production, a mold flow analysis can be performed to optimize runner locations for plastic injection molds. This allows production simulations to be conducted, minimizing possible risks.
After completing the detailed mold design, materials are ordered, and the manufacturing process begins. The process concludes with mold trials, part testing, and final approval.
